I started AthaOS Labs because I was tired of coming home to a "second job." We live in an era where hardware is more powerful than ever, yet we are being forced into rising subscription fees, cloud-dependent devices, and "smart" systems that stop working the moment your internet blinks or a CEO decides to change the app. AthaOS Labs is my answer to that frustration.

From the Garage to the Hub

My journey didn't start in a boardroom; it started with a pile of Dell Optiplex parts my school was throwing away. I spent my youth taking devices apart, figuring out how a dual-aperture lens worked, and turning retired laptops into my first home servers. I've always been obsessed with the magic of tech, but I became increasingly disappointed by the walls being built around it.

I watched the walled gardens get taller and subscriptions get more expensive. I watched the community lose access to their own hardware because of online-only updates. Big Tech is great at convenience, but they've forgotten that the data they're harvesting is yours, not theirs.

The Atha Mission: Radical Simplicity

The name Atha comes from a shortening of my name, Athena, but it also carries weight in Sanskrit, meaning "Now," "Here," and "The Beginning." That is what we are building: a new beginning for the home ecosystem.

No Second Job: You shouldn't have to be a network engineer to own your data. We build tools like the Etho Hub to give you the "it just works" experience of Apple or Google, but with the privacy of a local server.

Hardware You Actually Own: If you bought it, you should own it. No seat-warmer subscriptions, no gated features, and no forced obsolescence.

Local-First AI: We believe in using AI to eliminate the need for massive, data-hungry servers. If your phone can run a model locally, why should your private thoughts be sent to a data center?

Authentically Built, Self-Funded, User-Focused

AthaOS Labs isn't beholden to venture capitalists or a board of directors looking for recurring revenue at the expense of the user. We are self-funded and mission-driven.

As a trans woman in tech, I value the wisdom of the community and the freedom to be oneself without being tracked, indexed, and sold. I believe in technology that respects your time, your wallet, and your right to just zone out after work without having to troubleshoot your own home.

We aren't trying to burn down Big Tech -- we're just offering a better seat at the table. One where you're the guest, not the product.
